Progressive GE is looking for a System Administrator for an Oil & Gas Company based in Austin, TX. This is a global Oil & Gas Operator looking for candidates with strong IT experience and ideally having Oil & Gas experience. This is a full-time 12 month contract with potential to extend beyond the 12 months. We offer full benefits and 401k to our contract employees. Competitive hourly rates with overtime at 1.5 and a 9/80 work schedule!

Objectives of this Role

  • Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, desktops, software, and hardware
  • Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within a larger business initiative
  • Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems
  • Enable faster and smarter business processes and implement analytics for meaningful insights
  • Nurture dependable IT infrastructure that's always up and running
  • Partner with internal and external partners to communicate project status, activities, and achievements

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly
  • Monitor systems health by using management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers and desktops as needed
  • Maintain internal infrastructure requirements including, desktop computers, servers, SANs, NASs; including virtual machines both on-prem and hosted in Azure
  • Interact with other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups
  • Assist with building technical documentation, diagrams, manuals and IT policies

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in technology or computer science
  • Proven work experience in IT
  • Experience with or knowledge of programming languages and operating systems; current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, system performance-monitoring tools, active directories, DNS, virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching
  • Experience in project management, scripting, integration, and cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure)
  • Expertise in creating, analyzing, maintaining, and repairing large-scale distributed systems
  • Creating volumes, assigning to servers and remote replication a plus

Knowledge of the following

  • Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration
  • Group Policy design and configuration
  • Scripting (PowerShell, VBS, Python, Perl and/or other language)
  • Syslogs and logging servers
  • Acronis Backup Exec
  • Azure Cloud Hosted Environments
  • VMware ESXi
  • Windows Server Cluster
  • SAN and NAS devices
  • Microsoft Server 2012, Server 2016, Windows 7, Windows 10 (Linux a plus)
  • Microsoft SQL (a plus)
  • Symantec Anti-Virus
  • Terminal Server Services (RDweb) and/or Citrix
  • MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) technologies
  • A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking
  • Managing deployments/rollouts/upgrades
  • Microsoft SCOM and/or SCCM (a plus)
  • Microsoft WSUS
  • Microsoft Visio
