Assistant Scientist (Bacterial Vaccines)

Department:
The Bacterial Vaccines department focuses on the research and development of vaccines against infectious diseases. Within the Bacterial Vaccines department, the preclinical immunology group evaluates the immunogenicity and efficacy of potential vaccine candidates against infectious diseases in animal models. The main focus of the group is to conduct proof of concept studies and to generate appropriate scientific data that enable our vaccine candidates to progress towards clinical phase evaluation.

Job description:
We are looking for a motivated Assistant Scientist to evaluate the immunogenicity and efficacy of potential vaccine candidates. In addition, the role also involves non-laboratory responsibilities providing support across the Bacterial Vaccines Department on documentation and training. The focus in the laboratory (expected to be ~75% of the time) will be on bacteriology and immunological techniques such as bacterial culture, ELISA, and functional antibody assays such as neutralizing, serum bactericidal and opsonophagocytic assays. Work will be performed under supervision of a Scientist. Work will be performed at BSL2 (vaccination may be required).

The Assistant Scientist will be responsible for the performance of assays and analysis of results. The non-laboratory responsibilities (expected to be ~25% of the time) will involve review and archiving of documents, organizing and updating databases, and writing new procedures. Work will be performed under the supervision of a Senior Scientist. Good skills in documentation and time management are required.

Education
*
Bachelor or Master degree (BSc/MSc) in a relevant discipline such as biology, life sciences, or related fields or HLO.

Experience
* Previous experience working with bacteria and/or immunological methods (e.g. bacterial culture, ELISA, OPKA or SBA) is preferable.
* Previous experience in a pharmaceutical environment, particularly within a regulated environment, is advantageous.

Initial contract is one year, but longer-term is anticipated. We are looking for a methodical, organized and structured person to do this job. It is important you like to work in a structured manner and have good attention to detail. It is equally important that you are flexible and a team player who is capable of planning, organizing and executing your own work independently. English fluency is a must, Dutch is not.
