Careers In The Food And Beverage Industry - And The Power Of Professional Development In Employee Retention

Almost half (42%) of candidates cite professional development as an important factor when searching for a new role.

It is not all about salary; candidates expect a clear pathway for career development from the moment they arrive at a company. Opportunities for enhanced salary or bonus
packages become limited without a clear career development path.

A global study by McKinsey & Company found that lack of career development and advancement is a major driver of employee attrition, with 41% of departing staff saying that this was their top reason for quitting.27 At the same time, two out of five respondents from the 13,000 sample are considering leaving their jobs in the next three to six months.

Many departing employees say that a lack of career development played a part in their decision to leave a company.

Organizations that strengthen career development pathways are better positioned to capture these dissatisfied workers. SThree’s How the STEM World Works survey found 42% of candidates said that professional development was an important factor when searching for new roles, behind salary and benefits (cited by 60% of survey respondents).28

There is often a misconception that candidates looking for contract roles only care about paychecks and are not as career-minded as those seeking full-time positions. But we know that contract talent looks for variation in assignments and candidates are eager to pick up top priority projects for leading food and beverage companies, getting experience with those at the forefront of the industry. Career progression matters, whoever you are.
