We are looking to hire a GIS Technician to support utility projects in Birmingham, AL.


The GIS Technician will report to the Supervisor of GIS Services, which is a business unit of the Corporate Real Estate Department (CRE). The responsibilities include executing projects for CRE and for clients from several departments across the company to deliver Geographic Information System (GIS) based solutions for data conversion, mapping, analysis, and other related tasks. The position will coordinate with the Supervisor to ensure the business unit is meeting the customer's needs.


  • Supports CRE and other customers with mapping, data requests, data analysis, data conversion, and other related tasks
  • Designs project deliverables based on client need
  • Analysis of aerial Imagery and LiDAR data
  • Stays abreast of current GIS industry trends


  • Degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
  • GIS Professional (GISP) Certification a plus
  • Experience in a GIS field of 1 or more years is preferred
  • Experience ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap
  • Working knowledge of ArcPy/Python and other scripting languages is a plus
  • Experience with ArcGIS Server/Portal is a plus
  • Working knowledge of property legal descriptions and being able to plot with the GIS technology is a plus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of GIS theory and application
  • Broad knowledge of Remote Sensing, Global Positioning System (GPS), and the application of other GIS technologies and current industry trends
  • Proficiency with ESRI software is a plus
