Progressive Global Energy is recruiting for Construction Inspectors (Long Haul Fiber Inspectors) to oversee the underground construction support crews on projects and coordinate construction activities with landowners, businesses, and vendors. Candidates must have at least 3 years working experience with long haul underground fiber construction inspection or transmission ROW inspection. This position will support a large electric utility company serving millions of customers all over the state of Alabama and/or Georgia.

This is a full-time, contract employee position that will initially last 6 months and has high potential for long-term work in 2021. Competitive hourly rates offered with overtime at time and a half. Looking for candidates that are willing to travel 100% of the time throughout the state of Alabama and/or Georgia. The working schedule is typically 4/10s (working 10 hour days 4 days per week) and sometimes 3/11s always 40 hours, but typically 40-50 hour weeks. We provide a truck and all expenses are covered(hotels/accommodations, meals, fuel, etc.). We offer full benefits to our contract employees(medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO, etc.).

Job Requirements:

Inspect the installation of linear fiber projects on right-of-way.

  • Must have at least 3 years work experience with long haul underground fiber construction inspection or transmission ROW inspection
  • Experience with horizontal/directional boring and drilling
  • Gas or fiber conduit inspection experience is required
  • Sound knowledge of erosion and environmental factors
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly to customers, contractors, and Company representatives
  • Knowledge of environmental and civil rules and guidelines for construction
  • Must have Erosion Blue Card or be able to obtain Blue Card shortly after hire
  • Strong experience managing multiple crews effectively and safely
  • Strong safety background and ensure workers follow strict Company safety guidelines
  • Ability to work away from home up to 7 days a week if necessary with up to 100% travel

Job Description:

  • Perform a JSP and use the HP tools to achieve safety expectations
  • Contact supervision to report any incident (injury, operational, contact, vehicle) that may occur
  • Work with local TMC, Construction Subs and Lines, ACC-DCC, and Distribution departments
  • Hand off BMP plans or Environmental check list or inspections per site needs
  • Sign all time sheets and rental agreements
  • Cover all forms and site-specific information with contractors
  • Inspect all work and equipment that is installed to be correct
  • Communicate on any issues in a timely manner
  • Keep daily log of work
  • Attend preconstruction meetings and conference calls
  • Be able to identify safety issues that may affect the work force or work
  • Use the inspector manual with all other company manuals
  • Coordinate all deliveries and pickups of material and equipment to and from the site
  • Work with time keepers and material personnel on any issues that are material related
  • Maintain good housekeeping at the construction sites
  • Send in weekly and biweekly work updates
  • Maintain a secure site to protect the public
  • Keep in mind the budget and all expenses
  • Be able to use all tools available to communicate (iPad, computer, phone) to send or text work photos or emails
  • Submit expense reports in a timely manner
