Mechanical Design Engineer Swansea Up to £45,000
Progressive Engineering and a Major Engineering & Manufacturing Company in Heavy Process Engineering Solutions are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Head Office near Swansea, owing to succession planning & project pipeline for 2023-25+.
Based near Swansea and reporting into the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for both the full design and project lifecycle for large Heavy Fabricated Structures & Systems for Process Applications in the Oil & Gas, Energy, Petrochemical & Energy Industries
Specifically, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:
- Control engineering projects from order placement to data dossier submission.
- Interpret customer design requirements from data sheets, drawings and specifications.
- Attend meetings with customers to discuss technical and commercial clarifications.
- Generate and monitor project timeline plans using Microsoft project.
- Produce and check detailed fabrication drawings using 2D & 3D CAD software.
- Produce mechanical design calculations using design software, spreadsheets or hand calculations in conformity with international design codes and customer specifications.
- Produce quality control documentation.
- Prepare requisitions for materials and organise sub-contractor services.
- Monitor project costs and ensure any variations are calculated, recorded and agreed with the customer.
- Assist with the transport or shipping of equipment.
- Liaise with customers, inspectors and third party personnel on and off site.
Qualification & Experience Required for Mechanical Design Engineer role:
- Previous Mechanical Design Experience (as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Project Design Engineer etc), designing and delivering Heavy Fabricated / Welding / Machined Structures / Machinery (Ideally Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, AutoClaves, Pressure Equipment, although other Heavy Fabricated Structures & Systems is also applicable)
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Previous experience of design using 3D CAD Design software packages
- Prior experience of using FEA Analysis Software and conduct Mechanical Engineering Calculations to validate designs (such as stress & structural calculations, pressure calculations, stress of components etc).
- Prior experience of working to British, European or American Technical and Legislative standards (ideally possesses knowledge of ASME, PD5500, BS1113 or EN12952)
- Prior DFM experience including Fabrication, Machining, Welding etc
- Experience of working in a project-led organisation (re documentation, budgeting, scheduling of materials, liaising with suppliers etc)
- Proactive Team Player, capable of working in a multi-disciplinary engineering team
For the successful Mechanical Design Engineer, a salary up to £45,000 is on offer and this Mechanical Design Engineer role is commutable from Swansea, Llanelli, Port Talbot, Porthcawl, Bridgend, Neath, Aberdare, Llandeilo, Penderyn, Seven Sisters, Ammanford & Pen-y-Cae.
