Essential Job Functions

  • Architect fire suppression and detection system topology using internal financial modelling tool to select best solutions for the business
  • Lead all aspects of fire suppression and detection design and engineering including conceptual design, basis of design, scope of work, development of construction documents, equipment procurement strategy and innovation
  • Management of external fire suppression and detection engineer contractors
  • Drive project level tasks and milestones assigned by the project management team
  • Review project plans and specifications
  • Subject matter expert responsible for technical reviews including submittals, RFIs and engineering studies/analysis
  • Interface and manage mechanical design and design-build contractors on a per-project basis
  • Report on weekly basis to the Leadership Team on design progress, blockers, risks and assignment of priorities
  • Oversee review process of engineering studies of all types
  • Coach and help develop the career path for more junior engineers
  • Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings
  • Provide oversight and review of project plans, equipment and system submittals
  • Attend project design team meetings and interface with various team members
  • Partner up with the Human Resources in the recruitment of appropriate skilled individuals contractors to deliver the product required
  • Review, comment and process project plans and actively participate at various gating approvals
  • Participation in on-site job walks and meetings
  • Develop and/or set minimum requirements for complete sequence of operations for all designed systems. Review complete sequence of operations for all designed mechanical systems
  • Review documentation for the fire suppression and detection part of the commissioning efforts of each project
  • Support Site Operations to troubleshoot /tune existing systems
  • Provide oversight and review of project plans, equipment and system submittals
  • Coordinate with internal engineering teams across all disciplines to ensure products delivered to Operations are streamlined and optimised to meet the needs of the business across all functions
  • Conduct value engineering analysis, and provide system recommendations based on ROI and IRR analysis
  • Participate in product development process flow from idea to implementation led by the innovation engineering team to apply for and obtain patents for the company to retain its IP
  • Attend project design team meetings and ensure product constructed meets engineering standards and specifications
  • Work closely with Operations to find a balance between cost-effective solutions & operational sustainability
  • Support Sales during tours, RFP response, both standard and bespoke solutions, and customer meetings
  • Help set standards for commissioning efforts and ensure compliance on each project
  • Project coordination and commissioning support
  • Management of internal and external design teams
  • Respond on an as needed basis to data centre related emergencies
  • Additional duties as assigned from time to time by management


Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Experience in fire suppression & detection systems design and construction required
  • Data Centre and/or mission critical experience preferred
  • Accredited engineering credentials preferred (Chartered Engineer in EMEA)
  • Proficient knowledge of all building fire codes and ordinances
  • Working knowledge of MEP systems infrastructure within a data centre preferred
  • National and international travel required is expected to be 20 to 25%, but may increase over time as the business evolves
