How top tech can attract top talent

When looking for a new job, finding a working environment that suits you is important. Technology is significantly changing the way we work, so it’s not surprising good tech is one of the biggest things candidates look for when choosing a new job. If your company’s systems aren’t up to scratch, you could risk losing out on your next big hire. We spoke to Kirsty Shillan, Senior Client Relationship Manager at Progressive, to find out more.

Why tech is so attractive to candidates

One of the biggest things that attracts job seekers to a new role is an appealing set of benefits, with perks such as flexi-time, good healthcare and pension encouraging people to take roles.  According to a survey by LaptopsDirect, 53% of people looking for a new role always consider the quality of a company’s tech, so the promise of working with the latest technology is actually one of the best perks a company can offer. This was considered more important than staff discounts and flexible working.

Many candidates would also be considerably put off if an organisation’s tech wasn’t up to scratch, with 34% claiming they would turn down an offer from a company with sub-par tech. According to Kirsty, “We often find that candidates are inquisitive about the type and quality of technology a company is using. Many candidates are eager to keep their skills up to date, and it’s essential they’re working with systems that allow this.”

Regardless of industry, technology is re-shaping the way we work. In order for professionals to be productive in their job, they need to have systems in place that allow them to work efficiently. Mark Kelly, Marketing Manager at LaptopsDirect, explains, “Everyone will have worked with slower, old technology at some point in their careers and experienced frustration.”  Providing employees with the newest technology not only gives them the tools to reach their full potential, but highlights how much you value them.

Which industries value tech the most

Employees in creative industries such as marketing and communications are amongst those most drawn to companies with excellent tech systems. 84% of marketing professionals place high value on technology when looking for a new role. If companies want to design innovative campaigns in an industry that’s changing every day, having the best systems is a necessity. Similarly, creative designers and photographers need top quality programmes to produce impressive content that will engage with the company’s audience.

According to Elliot Bertram, UK&I Marketing Manager at Progressive, “It’s unsurprising that creative professionals place such high value on excellent tech. If you’re designing engaging campaigns that are looking to captivate audiences, you need to ensure you have the best systems in place to maximise their potential.” High calibre candidates who take pride in their work are likely to want to join companies that have systems which allow them to excel.

The impact on your business

Even if a high quality candidate chooses a business with low quality tech, the chances of them reaching their potential is significantly lower. For so many industries, cutting edge technology is essential to success. If you don’t have the right tech in place, you’re doing both your company and your employees a massive disservice.
